Work

Our Work Domain is about our people and creating an inclusive, compassionate and mentally healthy workplace where everyone is supported to deliver and thrive.

Our Commitments

Work 1

We will build and strengthen a network of mental health and wellbeing accountable leads, empowering them to influence decision-making locally and share best practice across the University.

Work 2

We will promote and monitor staff and line manager engagement with mental health training, ensuring access to training and resources, to equip them with the skills and confidence needed to manage their own mental health, support others, and know how and when to seek additional help.

Work 3

We will provide accessible resources and practical tools to help staff maintain their wellbeing, including apps, networks, OU clubs, and access to the Employee Assistance Programme.

Work 4

We will proactively identify and support specific cohorts of staff who may experience greater work-related mental health and wellbeing challenges.

Work 5

We will promote mental health and suicide prevention awareness training for staff and ensure clear guidance is available on prevention, intervention, and postvention support.

Work 6

We will ensure managers and staff in student and staff support roles take appropriate action to support students and colleagues who tell us about their mental health challenges, guided by university policies and support pathways.

Good mental health is central to staff engagement, productivity and creativity. The whole university approach brings together staff and student mental health and wellbeing.
