Objective four:

Support - delivering effective mental health and wellbeing support services

Deliver an effective range of support services that meet the diverse needs of our students throughout their studies

By taking an integrated approach to our student support, we will ensure that our services are delivered in a timely, personalised and effective manner to meet the range of needs of our students. We will also provide the necessary support network to our student-facing staff to help them deal with complex situations.

This objective will: And be measured through:

1. Review current mental health, wellbeing and disability resources and their effectiveness to support students and staff.

Perceived gaps and deficiencies in mental health and wellbeing resources.

2. Review how effectively mental health and wellbeing resources, policies and procedures are signposted to students and staff.

Informal and formal survey feedback on signposting of policies and procedures.

3. Develop a whole University awareness-raising campaign designed to engage students and staff with mental health and wellbeing resources and policies.

Informal and formal feedback on the awareness of policies.

4. Work collaboratively to promote and share inclusive learning and teaching practices.

Measurement of key attainment gaps and retention of students who have declared mental health issues.

5. Implement a skills-based framework that helps students and staff identify and engage with sensitive and emotive topics.

Successful integration of emotional resilience skills, strategies and guidance.

6. Ensure complementary mental health and wellbeing resources are developed for students and staff

The number of associated student and staff mental health and wellbeing resource pack releases.

7. Review current procedures that support all our vulnerable students to ensure they are aware of the support available to them.

Improved handling of vulnerable students self-reporting and time taken to complete requests.

8. Improve guidance, training and the provision of individual and group support for all student-facing staff on dealing with students in crisis.​

Staff feedback on confidence levels and perceived competence in dealing with distressed and vulnerable students.​
