Oversight of quality enhancement

The Office of the PVC (Students) is a central point of focus for improving student success and satisfaction within the University. The PVC (Students) works closely with the whole OU community to help students achieve their study goals, whatever these may be. Work is progressing on our 2024-27 priorities:

  • Achieving equity in outcomes for our students
  • Improving our first year undergraduate and postgraduate taught student outcomes through improving students’ readiness for study
  • Ensuring that we deliver tuition and assessment that meets current and future student needs in a cost-effective way
  • Improving our students’ experience by providing skills development and engaging curriculum, strengthening student voice, helping our students to be more employable and using quality assurance and enhancement to drive future improvement.

Quality enhancement is driven through at all levels. At an institutional level our evidence driven priorities are determined by insight gained on the performance and experience of our students through our internal QA/QE processes and by working with our Data and Students Analytics team and the Institute of Educational Technology. We also work closely with the centres for scholarship and innovation based in each faculty:

PVC (Students) has responsibility for Student Outcomes, EmployabilityStudent Satisfaction, the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) and Access, Participation and Success (APS). The portfolio works very closely with the Open University Students’ Association on student voice and student engagement. The Office of the PVC (Students) has responsibility for the University’s Student Charter, developed in partnership with the Students’ Association.
