OU Student Charter: Integrity

Integrity values

  • We act ethically and transparently.
  • We address concerns fairly, holding ourselves to account.
  • We commit to environmental sustainability, now and for the future.
  • We work together to ensure the future of the OU as a place of reputable open education.

This means we

  • We act ethically and transparently by being honest, open and clear in our decisions and communications, explaining how and why decisions are made and ensuring our actions align with OU policies and values.
  • We address concerns fairly by listening to different perspectives, responding consistently, and taking responsibility for our actions and their impact.
  • We commit to environmental sustainability by considering the long-term impact of our choices, seeking to reduce harm, and contributing positively to environmental and social wellbeing.
  • We also work together to ensure the future of the OU as a place of reputable open education by collaborating across the community, upholding high standards, and supporting innovation and continuous improvement.

This means we do not

  • We do not withhold information unnecessarily, act in ways that could mislead others, or make decisions without clear reasoning.
  • We do not dismiss concerns, apply processes inconsistently, or avoid accountability when things go wrong.
  • We do not ignore sustainability considerations or prioritise short-term gains over long-term responsibility.
  • We do not work in isolation, compromise quality or integrity, or make decisions that undermine trust in the OU and its mission.
